Back again with their fourth collaboration for Hoka One One FW 2021 collection with New York-based contemporary fashion label Engineered Garments, founded in 1999 by Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki. For Suzuki, the Hoka collaboration is an open playground for experimentation, fusing Engineered Garments’ staple elements with the functionality and comfort of the iconic Bondi L. Uncompromisingly, Suzuki finely draws subtle hints of eclecticism without sacrificing comfortability - challenging the status quo of what the aesthetics of a running shoe can be.
An ode to Americana with a Japanese twist- For Suzuki, the Hoka collaboration defies materiality, by integrating prints and textures yet still pertaining to the blueprints of the classic Bondi L. Suzuki understands the essential details necessary to create the “ideal runner”. From the ergonomic shape to the lightweight build, the Bondi L does not compromise. With the APMA (The American Podiatric Medical Association) seal of acceptance, the Bondi L adapts for everyday wear with an ultralight EVA midsole and a maximally cushioned road shoe. These shoes were not only made for walking but running too.
The well-crafted collection comes in four dynamic animal-print designs: “Black Cow Hair”, “Simply Taupe Cow Hair”, “Sand Leopard Print”, and “Brown Croc Print”. The warm earth-toned colourways sync with the transition through the upcoming Autumnal months. Prints such as leopard and crocodile are subtly integrated with calf hair, suede, and mesh, cohesively creating a sleek look. Past collaborations included takes on the Bondi B, Tor Ultra Low, and the Hupana- but the latest Bondi L takes the cake to be the most adventurous one to date.
Engineered Garments triumphantly redesigns the Bondi L running shoe into a multifaceted limited collection piece, whether it be for casual or for elevated looks. The ungendered Bondi L shoe encompasses all those qualities and yet takes it to the next level. Hoka x Engineered Collaboration may just be their most electrifying collaboration just yet.
“Our fourth collaboration with them showcases yet again the intersection of performance and fashion, and the brilliance that can result when cutting edge of both those worlds come together to build something unique,” stated Gretchen Weimer, the vice president of Hoka.
With limited quantities available and beneficial for both your feet and wardrobe- the Hoka x Engineered Garments is undoubtedly a catch. And like any catch, first come is most definitely first served.
