Introducing: William Frederick

Introducing: William Frederick

William Frederick has been a brand that has slowly built a secret cult following within the last few years and the brand name has been creating noise within the fashion world for some time now.

Started in 2018, William McNicol is based in Cleveland, Ohio with his strong emphasis on William Frederick pieces being made in Cleveland, Detroit, New York City, and Long Island City. You may be wondering the reasons behind this decision.

Being raised in a family business, William learned the importance of supporting local businesses from his experiences working at a young age. Making sure he had experience in every corner of the business—whether it be operations, customer service, maintenance, accounting, etc — William felt enriched in the dualities of “blue-collar and white-collar work.”

As his family business unfortunately closed operations post 2008-recession, William found the opportunity to create what it means to be from Cleveland—where the nuances of wearing a suit complimented with a workwear jacket can feel so familiar and comfortable—which has been communicated with every piece at William Frederick. As a one-man operation, William McNicol has been focused on small-batch production numbers with textiles sourced from Japan, Ireland, Belgium, and so on to reinforce this analogy.

Garments like the Studio Pant, a wide-barrel leg shape complimented with an elastic waistband, offers a simple, yet easy and durable wearing piece that could be used in an industrial or leisure setting.

As we see it here at Wallace Mercantile, William Frederick is offering something special that speaks of the utilitarian, minimalist, Mid-Western wardrobe: everything that’s necessary, nothing added, nothing wasted.

We are excited to say that we are introducing William Frederick to our SS26 collection.
