Battenwear is the brainchild of Engineered Garments alumnus Shinya Hasegawa, an avid adventurer and keen study of vintage outdoor clothing and sportswear. These two passions combine in Battenwear – which was created back in 2011 in New York’s famed Garment District and has since earned its stripes by carving out a niche all its own. The brand captures the timeless, universal appeal of well-made gear near perfectly and their collective years of carefully studying the classics really pays off. Durable, lightweight fabrics abound and everything Battenwear creates is guaranteed to look good on both trails and high streets the world over.
Back just in time for cooler temps, Battenwear brings us a whole new array of supremely chill clothing for the FW22 season. Supplementing our bag roster, we've restocked the Packable Tote in both black and green, and added the Travel Pouch to our roster for all your winter jet-setting needs. Our new favourite pant joins us as well in the appropriately named Active Lazy Pants, a roomy-fitting, elastic waisted pair of duck canvas trousers perfect for lounging in. Caps like the Field Cap in seasonal corduroy and the Watch Cap in a number of eye-catching colours have been added as well, as have cozy top layer like the Canyon Five Pocket Shirt and Neighbor Cardigan.
To truly understand Battenwear though, one must first understand just how much goes into their design process. For starters, all Battenwear garments are proudly made in the USA, often at the same Garment District factories in which the brand began its life. Hasegawa notably eschews many popular “outdoorsy” fabrics entirely, simply because they don’t meet the brand’s rigorous requirements for aging. Instead, Battenwear clothing typically features time-tested materials like French terry, Taslan nylon, various denims, and other fabrics that are most often seen in pieces from the 60s and 70s. Combine these with updated tech-y fabrics like Coolmax® and Battenwear’s contemporary-vintage design ethos and you’ve got yourself the perfect recipe for some seriously nice clothing. Read more...
